Why Richmond matters
Richmond sits in the northeast corner of Macomb County, with a small slice reaching into St. Clair County. In 1835 Erastus Beebe and his brothers came from New York and founded Beebe's Corners, and on December 1, 1859, the Grand Trunk Railway arrived to carry the area's lumber and crops to market.
In 1878 Beebe's Corners, Ridgeway and Cooper Town voted to join up, the Village of Richmond was born in 1879, and it became a city on July 1, 1966. The town clock at Park and Main was donated in 1924 by Gilbert “Square Deal” Miller, a former Richmond resident who struck it rich as a Detroit merchant; the Seth Thomas clock weighs over two tons and turned 100 in 2024.
The Muttonville neighborhood got its name from a slaughterhouse in what was mostly sheep country. The Macomb Orchard Trail starts in Richmond, and the Richmond Community Theatre is opening its 61st season in 2026.

What Richmond is known for
The 1924 town clock at Park and Main, the largest of its kind in Michigan when it was installed.
It was formed by merging three settlements, Beebe's Corners, Ridgeway and Cooper Town, in 1878 and 1879.
Bailey Historic Park, with an 1885 one-room schoolhouse, an early 1900s Grand Trunk depot, an 1850 log cabin and a replica blacksmith shop that has served as a museum since 2009.
The Richmond Good Old Days Festival, which marked its 53rd year at Beebe Street Memorial Park in 2016.
It's the northern end, or the starting point, of the Macomb Orchard Trail.
