One loop of the Detroit People Mover takes about fifteen minutes. Get on at any station, stay in your seat, and the whole of downtown rolls past your window: the river with Windsor on the far bank, the Renaissance Center, Greektown, the theaters around Grand Circus Park. We have loved that little train for years. It taught us how to look at this city.

That quarter of an hour gave us our name and our ¼ sign. Quarter Detroit wants to give everyone the same thing: a quick, loving loop around everything Detroit is, and then an invitation to step off and explore. In Hungarian, “negyed” also means a city quarter, a neighborhood. So Egy Negyed Detroit means two things at once: a quarter of an hour of Detroit, and a corner of Detroit where Hungarian is spoken too.

Too many people in Europe still know Detroit only from old headlines. We know a different city: its music, its kitchens, its neighborhoods and its people. So we built a guide, in English and in Hungarian, that shows all of it. We made it out of respect and love for Detroit, in the spirit of welcome and inclusion.

We also keep what the city loses. Closed bars and legendary clubs stay on our pages with their old addresses and phone numbers, and every event stays on one timeline, past and future. We are building Quarter Detroit to still be useful in thirty years, as a memory of the city.
