Why Macomb Township matters
Macomb Township sits right at the center of Macomb County. The first settlers came in the early 1800s looking for flat, fertile land along the Clinton River; many were of German descent, and that influence is still around.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s the township was part of southeast Michigan's lumber business, with logs floated down the Middle Branch of the Clinton River to the sawmills. Romeo Plank Road, which follows the river's west bank, still traces that old route.
After 2000, subdivisions sprang up fast on the old farms, and by the 2020 census it was Michigan's most populous civil township. The old hamlets of Macomb Corners, Meade and Waldenburg live on in street corners and parks, and in summer the concerts and outdoor movies at Macomb Corners Park bring everyone together.

Macomb Township through the years

On January 15 Macomb County is organized and named for Alexander Macomb.

On March 7 the territorial Legislative Council approves Macomb Township.
