01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
The Woodward Dream Cruise started in August 1995 as a fundraiser for a soccer field in Ferndale, when Nelson House and a group of local volunteers set out to relive the cruising days of the '50s and '60s. About 250,000 people showed up that first year, ten times what they expected. Organizers now call it North America's largest one-day automotive event, with nearly a million people and around 40,000 classic cars. The route runs through nine communities along Woodward between Ferndale and Pontiac.
