Wolverine Packing Co. started in the 1930s in Detroit's Eastern Market as a small lamb and veal processor and is now run by the third generation of the family. It pioneered vacuum packing for lamb and veal in the early 1970s, opened a steak cutting room in 1997 and grew into a full protein distributor covering beef, pork, poultry and frozen seafood. Today it moves 4,000 products from 250 brands out of a facility topping 300,000 square feet.
