01 / The story of this place

Make time for these

Wiard's started out on Wiard Road near what's now Willow Run Airport, running an orchard, cider mill, vinegar mill and vineyards. A farm market opened in the 1950s and was remodeled in the '60s into today's Country Store and bakery, when the current cider mill went up too. The Country Fair arrived in the 1980s and was rebuilt on the north side of Merritt Road in 2007, after the farm sold land to Washtenaw County Parks in 2006 so Rolling Hills Water Park could expand. The orchards hold more than 5,000 apple trees on close to 100 acres. In 2026 two spring frosts cut the apple crop, so U-pick closed early; the store sells apples at the same price as U-pick.
