West Bloomfield High School traces back to 1955, when the district's first high school classes met in what is now Abbott Middle School. The district built the current high school building on Orchard Lake Road in 1971 as the fast-growing Oakland County suburb's population boomed. The suburban campus has since expanded several times to keep pace with the district's growth, adding athletic facilities and updated academic wings. Actor and comedian Brandon T. Jackson, later known for the Percy Jackson and Tropic Thunder films, graduated from the school in the late 1990s and early 2000s before moving to Hollywood to pursue acting and stand-up comedy. West Bloomfield High School remains the sole public high school of the West Bloomfield School District, serving several thousand students from the surrounding suburb north of Detroit.
