01 / The story of this place

Make time for these

Construction on the $25 million arena started in summer 2019 and wrapped up in October 2021, near Warren and Trumbull. It's a 70,000-square-foot building with seating for about 3,000, more than double the 1,131 seats in the old Matthaei gym. Thanks to a partnership with the Detroit Pistons, the Motor City Cruise, the Pistons' G League affiliate, have played their home games here since moving from Arizona in 2021. Pistons summer camps and AAU tournaments use the building too.

Motor City Cruise home opener at Wayne State Fieldhouse

The Motor City Cruise, the Detroit Pistons' G League affiliate, play their first home game of 2026-27 against the Noblesville Boom at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2026, at Wayne State Fieldhouse. It's up-close, affordable hoops: season tickets work out to $14 a game, and single tickets are on the team site, Ticketmaster or at 313-PISTONS.
