01 / The story of this place

Make time for these

Wayne County was founded in 1796 and, with 1,793,561 residents, is Michigan's most populous county; Detroit is the county seat. County government, led by County Executive Warren Evans, works out of the downtown Guardian Building, which the county bought in 2007 and whose Art Deco lobby is still open to visitors. The county also runs parks such as Hines Park and Bennett Arboretum, a family aquatic center, and owns Willow Run Airport.
