The University of Michigan Gilbert & Sullivan Society, UMGASS for short, was founded in 1947. It describes itself as the oldest student-run society in the United States dedicated to performing Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. It stages two productions a year with orchestra, open to the public in Ann Arbor. Recent shows were The Gondoliers (fall 2025) and The Mikado (winter 2026), and it's now casting Princess Ida.
