01 / The story of this place

Make time for these

The building hosted its first men's basketball game in December 1957 and was named in 1963 for coach Herbert "Buck" Read, who won 345 games over 27 seasons. A $50 million expansion in 1994 added three floors of offices, locker rooms, a gymnastics training space and an academic center. The court got its Michigan-map graphics for the 2015-16 season, and LED lights and a new sound system arrived in summer 2017. Look for the big W on the roof.
