Make time for these
Troy's first library opened in September 1962 in two rooms at Troy High School, with 1,000 books. As the city boomed it moved to a storefront on Square Lake Road and then to Rochester Road. Ground was broken for the current building on January 24, 1970, and it opened on May 16, 1971. Marguerite Hart, the first children's librarian, wrote to famous people asking them to send a message to Troy's kids, and got 97 replies, including Dr. Seuss, E.B. White and Ronald Reagan. After a 1985 expansion, the library was ranked number one in Michigan among libraries serving 50,000 or more in 2004.
