Opa! Fest
A June weekend at Metro Detroit's biggest Greek festival in Troy: spanakopita, loukoumades, folk dancing, live music and church tours.
01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
For one June weekend, Troy turns into a little slice of Greece. St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church has been inviting everyone to "be Greek for a day" at Opa! Fest since 1993. The kitchen turns out spanakopita, tiropita, galaktoboureko and loukoumades (honey puffs), while the café pours Greek coffee and frappé. Enigma Detroit plays live, the parish's Opa! Dancers perform in traditional costume, and there's an Iron Chef contest, cooking demos, a marketplace and church tours. Greek Reporter has called it Metro Detroit's largest Greek festival, with 10,000-plus visitors, and part of the proceeds goes to Gleaners Community Food Bank.
