What’s it like to stay here?
Treetops started out in 1954 as Lin Meade's Sylvan Knob ski area. Auto-parts executive Harry Melling bought it in 1983, added the Sylvan Inn and more lodging, and brought in Robert Trent Jones Sr., whose Masterpiece course gave the resort its Treetops name. Today it spreads over about 3,300 acres with five golf courses, including the only Tom Fazio-designed course in Michigan and the Threetops par-3, which hosted ESPN's Par-3 Shootout in 2001. From December to March you can ski, snowboard and go tubing, and a full-service spa is waiting when you're done. It's about 10 minutes from I-75.

Getting there
Look at the packages first: they bundle savings for golf trips, spa getaways and couples' weekends. Check-in is at 5 p.m.; check-out is noon for hotel rooms and 11 a.m. for condos and cottages.
