In August 2026 Michigan's governor proclaimed the state's first Transgender and Non-Binary Pride and History Month, tied to the anniversary of the 1966 Compton's Cafeteria riot. Affirmations, the Gender-Identity Network Alliance and the ACLU of Michigan organized the program together. It opened on August 1 with a rally at Affirmations and a march to Nine Mile and Woodward, followed by screenings, talks and performances through August 25. The month coincides with Transgender Pride in the Park; whether it will return every year has not yet been confirmed.
