01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
The stadium opened with the Homecoming game on October 26, 1968, a 61-29 win over Washington (Mo.). A 2001 renovation flipped the entrance to face the fan parking lot and added the spirit walk with its concrete W statue. FieldTurf arrived in 2006, and a new turf, video board and sound system went in before the 2015 season. You can read the Wayne State University lettering on the press box from the Lodge. Every season kicks off here with the Prep High School Kickoff Classic, featuring top Michigan and Ohio high school teams.
