The Bay Theatre
Suttons Bay's single-screen downtown cinema on the Leelanau Peninsula, open since 1946. When it was about to close in 2018, residents saved it as a nonprofit, and volunteers run it almost entirely.

The Bay Theatre opened on February 12, 1946 in downtown Suttons Bay on the Leelanau Peninsula. For decades it was a family-owned house known for hand-picked foreign, independent and first-run films. When the family theater was set to close in December 2018, residents formed the nonprofit Bay Community Theatre, which showed its first film on January 1, 2019. It's run almost entirely by volunteers. Besides movies, the 452-seat house hosts live performances and literary programs.
