St. Thomas Chaldean Catholic Church serves metro Detroit's large Chaldean community, Catholics with roots in Iraq who follow their own Eastern-rite liturgy, from a suburban campus in West Bloomfield. Father Francis Kalabat served as the parish's pastor from 2001 to 2014, guiding one of the community's larger congregations through more than a decade of growth. In 2014 Kalabat was ordained bishop of the Chaldean Catholic Eparchy of St. Thomas the Apostle of Detroit, the diocese overseeing Chaldean parishes across the United States, moving on from the parish he had led. St. Thomas remains an active parish today, part of a Chaldean community anchored in Metro Detroit's northern suburbs.
