03 / The story of this place

What’s it like to stay here?

Local investors built it in 1926 to serve the steamer trade on the St. Clair River, with Walter H. Wyeth as architect, and it opened that September. After decades under the Holden family and later owners it sat closed for several years, was bought in 2015 and reopened in 2019 after a $40 million restoration. Today there are 85 rooms and suites in the historic building and the North Tower, plus three private riverfront cottages with kitchens and patios. You get an outdoor pool, The Dive restaurant and the Prohibition speakeasy, and freighters pass right outside; the boardwalk and downtown St. Clair are a short walk away. Dreamscape Hospitality has managed it since August 2025.
