Make time for these
The Spicers have grown fruit in southeast Michigan for six generations. Their first farm was near Detroit, and the fruit went downtown by horse and wagon; in the 1950s their market stood near Grand River and Novi Road. After I-96 went in they bought a farm in Linden, then this Hartland farm in 1967. Today's market went up in 1980, modeled on an old Victorian carriage house that once stood on the property, and one building holds 10,000-bushel storage, the donut shop, bakery, cider mill and winery. Donuts are fried in a cottonseed and palm oil blend, no beef tallow, and there's a gluten-free option.

- Scenic hayride on fall weekends: $8 with cider and donut, $5 without
