Skelletones opened on South Division Avenue in 2000 as an all-ages, alcohol-free club and became Grand Rapids' launchpad for young bands; it was the first West Michigan stage for future stars such as Against Me!, August Burns Red, mewithoutyou and Russian Circles. It shut in 2009, and original owner Mark 'Mirf' Leech and his wife Annette revived it with a fundraising campaign, reopening it in September 2021 with a renovated stage and sound. Leech announced it would close again at the end of 2025, citing among other things reduced parking after new apartments opened nearby, and said the team hoped to find a new home.
