01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
Father-and-son team Toney Hughes Sr. and Toney Hughes Jr. opened Sherwood Forest Art Gallery on Livernois in 2007, after doing business in Detroit since 1994. Walls and shelves are packed with paintings, limited-edition prints, sculptures and African masks from local and international artists, with plenty of Detroit-themed work in the mix. It's also a working frame shop: bring in a favorite photo and they'll print, enlarge and frame it, with free estimates and design advice. Up-and-coming artists can apply to show here too.
- Run by Toney Hughes Sr. and Jr. since 2007
- African masks, sculpture and limited-edition prints
- Custom framing, photo enlargements and canvas stretching
- Free estimates and design advice
- A launchpad for emerging Detroit artists
Photos were taken at different times; images are resized and cropped on cards.
