Make time for these
The city calls Shain Park the heart of Birmingham. There's a plaza fountain trimmed in granite, a Marshall Fredericks statue at the center, and Merrill Street itself is paved in granite as it runs through. You'll also find a band shell, a newer children's play area and a stage with a big open lawn, home of the In the Park summer concerts. In winter the park hosts the Winter Markt, and horse-drawn carriage rides leave from here in late November. Each October the city throws the free Birmingham Pumpkin Patch with costume contests, bounce houses and food trucks.
