Seaholm High School opened in 1951 as Birmingham High School, built to serve the fast-growing Detroit suburb of Birmingham. When a second high school, Groves, opened across town in 1959, the original building was renamed for Ernest W. Seaholm, a longtime local school board president. Actress Christine Lahti, known for her Emmy-winning role in the television series Chicago Hope, graduated from Seaholm in the 1960s before going on to Michigan and New York. The school today enrolls students from Birmingham and Bloomfield Township as part of Birmingham Public Schools, one of the state's strongest public districts. Its campus on West Lincoln Street includes classroom wings, an auditorium and athletic facilities that have been expanded and renovated several times since 1951.
