01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
Norm Moffatt started growing grapes and making wine as a hobby after retiring as an officer in Detroit. His wife Alice, sister Annie and daughters Heather and Holly joined in, and the five of them opened the winery to the public in 2003. Norm, Alice and Annie have since passed; the Traminette is dedicated to Alice and Annie's Mapleshine is named for Annie. Inside there are fireplace tables, outside a patio and lawn by the vines, with wine slushies in summer and mulled wine in winter. Around Halloween the spiced Night of the Living Red is the big seller, also in a hot-pepper version and a bourbon-barrel one.
