01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
The stadium opened in 1969: EMU upset Akron 10-3 in the first game on Sept. 27, and the facility was dedicated on Oct. 25. It honors Elton J. Rynearson Sr., who coached EMU football for 26 seasons and won 114 games. Built for 15,500, it grew through expansions in 1974 and 1992 to a standard capacity of 30,200, and the single-game record is 25,009, set in the mid-1990s. The gray FieldTurf went down in 2014, was fully replaced and widened in 2024, and the field has carried the name Maxx Crosby Field since then. In 2019 the $20 million Incarnati Athletic Center was attached to the north end zone.
