01 / The story of this place

Make time for these

The Ruth Ellis Center is named for Ruth Ellis, a Detroit lesbian elder, and serves LGBTQ+ young people, especially youth of color and those facing homelessness. Its Highland Park base includes a drop-in center for ages 13 to 30, and it runs the Ruth Ellis Health & Wellness Center with Henry Ford Health and supportive housing at the Ruth Ellis Clairmount Center. It also has a Center for Lesbian & Queer Women and Girls. Several Detroit Pride-season events raise money for its work, and its annual VOICES gala takes place in September.
