Roseland Park opened along Woodward Avenue in Berkley in 1906 and has served metro Detroit families for well over a century. Frank E. Doremus, a Detroit congressman in the 1910s who later served as a federal judge, was buried here after his death in 1947. Decades later, Rob Tyner, the wild-voiced singer who fronted the proto-punk band MC5 and helped make Detroit rock loud before punk had a name, was laid to rest at Roseland Park in 1991, not far from the Berkley home where he'd lived. The cemetery sits on the busy Woodward corridor but keeps its grounds quiet, shaded by mature trees planted over generations. It remains an active cemetery today, open to visitors who want to pay respects to Tyner or trace other Detroit-area family histories among its rows.
