01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
Amy Peterson co-founded Rebel Nell in 2013 while working for the Detroit Tigers and living next door to a women's shelter. The idea: turn layers of fallen street-art paint into jewelry, and hire women facing barriers to employment to make it. The name riffs on Eleanor Roosevelt's childhood nickname, Little Nell. The social enterprise has employed 50 creative designers and seen 41 graduate into the traditional workforce. At the downtown shop, a 30-minute session lets you design your own ring, necklace or keychain.
- Rings, necklaces and cuff links made from fallen Detroit graffiti
- 30-minute design-your-own jewelry sessions
