01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
The track was dedicated on April 17, 1937, when MSU beat the University of Chicago 88-43 in a dual meet. Before that, Spartan track bounced between three spots on campus, including Macklin Field, where Spartan Stadium stands today. Around the turn of the century the site was rebuilt to house both field hockey and the men's and women's track and field programs. The MSU Field Hockey Complex opened on Sept. 6, 2002, and the first track meet on the new layout followed in spring 2004. MSU has hosted the Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 1960, 2006 and 2015.
