The Rainbow Room opened in 1996 at 6640 E. 8 Mile Road, in the space that had been the Railroad Crossing. For sixteen years it was a major drag pageant venue on Detroit's northeast edge, crowning titleholders such as Miss Rainbow Room and Mr. Rainbow Room. It closed in 2012, and the space later operated as the Birdcage, another show bar with pageant titles of its own.
