02 / The story of this place

Peppermint Creek Theatre Company began in 1995 as the Peppermint Creek Players, founded by Chad Swan-Badgero and named after the creek near his childhood home in Mason. At first it staged one play each summer, at Mount Hope Presbyterian Church and the MSU Gardens Conservatory. When Swan-Badgero came back from New York, the group became a nonprofit with a full season. It produces classic and contemporary plays that take on social issues. The 2026-27 season moves into the new Stage One Performing Arts Center on Lake Lansing Road, opening with Jen Silverman's Witch (November 6–15, 2026) and closing with Dave Malloy's a cappella musical Octet (June 4–13, 2027).
