01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
Paycheck's Lounge started booking original live music in 1980–81, following the success of Bookie's; its first show is dated August 1980, and newspaper calendar listings begin in April 1981. Part of a Hamtramck club circuit with Lili's 21, the Hamtramck Pub and the Bowery, it became the longest-running live-music venue in Hamtramck and launched many Detroit punk and rock bands. Its name reportedly came from the Polish immigrant owner's saying “All's we need is a paycheck,” and the last shows were held in spring 2016.
