Oslo opened in April 2004 at 1456 Woodward as a sushi bar upstairs with a basement dance club, founded by partners Brook Campbell and Sameer Reddy after four years of planning. Musicians such as Rob Theakston praised it as a rare Detroit room where the music was the centerpiece, and it booked leading local and national techno and house DJs. It closed on December 15, 2006 amid financial and landlord disputes, then reopened in 2007 under Katalia Lemos and her husband Roberto (DJ Bet), with house, techno and hip-hop in the basement club and a Thai-influenced menu; events are documented into 2011, but the final closing year is not known.
