Peter Karmanos Jr. built this glass tower at Woodward Avenue and Campus Martius Park as the headquarters of Compuware, the software company he had grown into one of Detroit's biggest tech employers, and it opened in 2003 as a bet on downtown Detroit at a time when few companies were investing there. Karmanos ran Compuware from the building until 2011, and its arrival helped anchor the slow revival of Campus Martius as a public gathering space. Businessman Dan Gilbert moved his Quicken Loans operations downtown from the suburbs starting in 2010, and his companies, later including Rocket Mortgage, took over much of the tower; his real estate firm Bedrock bought the building outright in 2014. One Campus Martius remains a working office tower today, one of the anchors of downtown Detroit's redevelopment.
