The Novi Expo Center started life in 1966 as a factory for the Adell Corporation, which made door guards for cars, near where Novi Road meets I-96. After Franklin Adell moved the company to Texas, the building was leased to Mohawk Liqueur, which bottled Kahlua there, and in March 1992 it reopened as the Novi Expo Center. For the next thirteen years it was the western suburbs' big show hall, home to home and garden shows and to the Motor City Comic Con. On July 21 and 22, 2000, Insane Clown Posse, Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope, threw the first Gathering of the Juggalos here for fans of their Psychopathic Records, with Twiztid and Kottonmouth Kings on the bill plus wrestling, tattoo artists and a haunted house. On the last night hundreds of fans rushed the stage when ICP invited them up, and management pulled the plug. The Gathering moved on to Ohio and Illinois, and in 2005 a new, bigger showplace replaced the Expo Center. The empty building was demolished in June 2012, and the land became the Adell Center, with hotels, shops and restaurants.
