Northview Cemetery is the largest of Dearborn's three cemeteries, about 18 acres on the south side of Kensington Street between West Outer Drive and Military Avenue. The first burial took place on December 22, 1883, and many of Dearborn's pioneer families rest here, along with the only soldier ever killed at the old Dearborn Arsenal. It is privately owned and open to all faiths. Its best-known grave belongs to actor George Peppard, born in Detroit on October 1, 1928, and raised in Dearborn, where he graduated from Dearborn High School in 1946. His father was a building contractor and his mother a voice teacher and singer. Peppard became a star as Paul Varjak opposite Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's in 1961 and won a whole new generation of fans in the 1980s as Colonel John "Hannibal" Smith, the cigar-chomping leader of The A-Team. He died in Los Angeles on May 8, 1994, and was brought home to Dearborn, where a shared family stone also names his parents.
