03 / The story of this place
What’s it like to stay here?
Colonel Andrew Mann built it in 1835 with bricks fired right on site, and it was a halfway stop for stagecoaches between Detroit and Chicago. It closed as a hotel in 1878, became a windmill and wagon factory and then the Dean's Flats apartments, and was restored and reopened as a country inn on Thanksgiving 1976. Today it's a 15-room bed-and-breakfast with three parlors, a porch and afternoon tea, in a town known for its 19th-century architecture. The inn calls it the oldest brick building in Calhoun County.
