Mom's Spaghetti turns one of the most quoted lines in hip-hop into an actual meal. The phrase comes from Lose Yourself, Eminem's 2002 song from 8 Mile that won an Academy Award, and from 2017 Eminem and the Detroit-area restaurant group Union Joints tested the idea as pop-ups at his shows and at festivals such as Coachella and Governors Ball. The permanent shop opened on September 29, 2021, as a walk-up window at 2131 Woodward Avenue, inside the new Union Assembly building, and Eminem made a surprise appearance to serve the first ten customers himself. The menu is short on purpose: spaghetti in takeout boxes with garlic toast, with meatballs or vegan meatballs, plus the 'sghetti sandwich, spaghetti and mozzarella on garlic toast, said to be Eminem's own favorite. Upstairs, a shop called The Trailer sells merch and memorabilia. Shady Records and Union Joints co-own the place, and the brand keeps touring as pop-ups in other cities.
