Downtown French bakery-café on Grand River with croissants, macarons and cakes from a Paris-trained master pastry chef.

01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
Cannelle is the work of Matt Knio, who trained in Paris under pastry chef Claude Baraque, earned his master artisan diploma at the Académie de Versailles in 1997 and ran the pastry kitchen at Michigan's Ritz-Carlton before opening his own place. The first Cannelle opened in Michigan in 2003, and this downtown Detroit café followed in 2019. Expect buttery croissants, macarons, fruit tarts and good coffee from early morning. Hour Magazine named it Best of Detroit in 2008, and CBS crowned its macarons Metro Detroit's best in 2013.
