What’s it like to stay here?
The buildings went up in the 1950s for the Moral Re-Armament movement, became Mackinac College in 1966, turned into a vacation resort in 1972 and took the Mission Point name in 1987. Today there are 243 rooms and suites, an outdoor pool, a spa, an 18-hole putting course and about 38,000 square feet of event space, on the island's sunrise side, a short walk from downtown. It calls itself the island's only dog-friendly resort, so the pup can come too. Movie fans: parts of the campus show up in the 1980 film Somewhere in Time.

Getting there
There are no cars on the island: park at the mainland ferry docks, then walk, bike or take a carriage taxi from the island docks. Check-in is 4 p.m., check-out 11 a.m.
