The Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association is the state's hospitality trade group. It started as the Michigan Restaurant Association in 1921 and broadened in 2018 to include lodging, taking its current name. It lobbies in Lansing, runs ServSafe food safety training, hands out the Stars of the Industry Awards and organizes the ProStart competition. By its count, restaurants and lodging employ nearly 600,000 Michiganders.
