This cemetery sits at Willow Road and Karr Road in Van Buren Township, just outside Belleville, and for decades it was known as Metropolitan Memorial Park before being renamed Chapel of Memorial Gardens. Among the people buried here is Georgeanna Tillman, one of the founding members of the Marvelettes, the Inkster girl group whose 1961 single 'Please Mr. Postman' became Motown's first number-one pop hit. Tillman sang lead and background vocals with the group through the early 1960s before lupus forced her to leave; she died in 1980 at just thirty-six. The cemetery remains an active burial ground today, run under its current name.
