01 / The story of this place

Make time for these

The railroad was organized in 1975 and takes its name from Tennessee's Little River Railroad and Lumber Company, whose star engine it saved. No. 110 is a 4-6-2 Pacific built by Baldwin in November 1911; it hauled logs and passengers out of Townsend for 28 years, then sat rusting on a siding near Knoxville until it was bought for $3,100 in 1968. Trains have left from Coldwater since 2005. In Quincy you get a half-hour layover while the engine runs around to the other end of the train. Volunteers run the whole operation on ticket sales, concessions and donations.
