What’s it like to stay here?
Construction started in 1920 and stalled for years before it finally opened on January 2, 1930, as the Hotel Northland. Amelia Earhart stayed in 1932 and Abbott & Costello in 1942; it slid downhill in the 1970s, closed in 1982 and reopened as the Landmark Inn in 1997 after a restoration. Each of the 66 rooms is different, some with working fireplaces, claw-foot tubs or Lake Superior views, and many are named for famous guests. Up on the sixth floor, the Crow's Nest lounge looks out over the lake, and the Northland Pub handles comfort food downstairs.
