What’s it like to stay here?
It was probably built for the Aylsworth family in the early 1910s, became the members-only Lakeside Park Country Club in 1930 and an artists' retreat, the Lakeside Center for the Arts, from 1968. Devereux Bowly restored it and reopened it as an inn in 1995. No two of the 31 rooms are alike; some face the lake, some have jetted tubs. You get a 100-foot porch, private beach access and, next door, the four-bedroom House of Eleven Gables for groups of up to 10. It has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 2009.
