01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
Charley and Margie Helwig opened the farm in 2005 as Charley's Corn Maze Adventures, which later became Farmer Charley's Kackleberry Farm. The name nods to Charley's egg-farm roots: "kackleberry" is old slang for a chicken egg, and his family supplied eggs to Delray Bakery in Detroit. Keith and Laura Middleton bought the farm in 2022 and run it with their four kids. The fall festival has hayrides, pig races, duck races, a jumping pillow, a bubble barn, apple blasters and farm animals. The kitchen does burgers, pizza and cider doughnuts, with gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan and halal options.
