01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
The original library opened in 1964. The old building was torn down and replaced in 2005 with a brand-new one that cost $3.8 million. At the time the city wasn't sure it could pay for two new libraries, since the Caroline Kennedy Library was being rebuilt too. The Dearborn Heights Tax Increment Finance Authority stepped in and covered almost half the cost, and later paid for the new parking lot east of the building. The new building has a curved roof and big glass walls.
- Built in 2005 for $3.8 million
- Its own parking lot on the east side of the building
- Separate reference desk line: (313) 791-6052
- Sister branch: Caroline Kennedy Library on George Street
