The Jewish Ensemble Theatre was founded in 1989 by Evelyn Orbach, Mary Lou Zieve and Henrietta Hermelin Weinberg as an Actors' Equity professional company. For more than 30 years it produced four or five plays a year exploring issues from a Jewish perspective. It toured anti-bullying shows to schools and, with the Detroit Institute of Arts, staged The Diary of Anne Frank more often than any theater in the world. In its last years it performed in an immersive theater space in downtown Walled Lake. On September 30, 2022, after two and a half years of COVID-19, its board announced the sunsetting of the organization.
