Hy's Cider Mill
A family cider mill and orchard on 37 Mile Road in Bruce Township, pressing cider since 1973 and running wagons out to U-pick apples.
01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
Joe and Ettie came to the U.S. in the early 1900s and bought this 160-acre farm in the early 1930s. Joe sold the apples at Detroit's Eastern Market, and later his younger son Hyman took over the orchard. In 1967 Hyman had his crop pressed at a mill in Mount Clemens and started selling "Hy's Cider" at Eastern Market. The family opened its own mill in fall 1973: the first press made 200 gallons an hour, today's makes 1,200. Hyman's son Jim and his wife Michelle run the place now.
